The frog in the well is a very common phrase, which we could have been hearing since our childhood. The frog literally speaking, is very comfortable creature that dwells in the well. Its life is so sheltered that it is very happy, cozy, and does not want to come out of it, though at times, complains of being stuck in a small place. When it looks up, it perceives that there is a small opening, and believes, there is something fishy up there, but does not want to try because it thinks it is quite risky, perhaps, afraid of others, and stays back where it is and leaving the life to go on.
Since birth, our thoughts are so constricted that we are told what we need to do, either by our parents, neighbors, friends, peers, society, etc... Going beyond these thoughts would mean a sin or crime. We are so conditioned by these thoughts that we would not dare to think beyond. We grow up like this.
Generally speaking, human mind is so fluid that it does not stop thinking. Human brain keeps flowing with continuous thoughts, but the problem is, we are so conservative in our thinking. Human brain processes around 50 to 70,000 thoughts per day, which means 40 to 50 thoughts per minute per person. The flow of thinking is thick filter between our thoughts and feelings in our head. Emotions on the other hand keep dominating our thoughts. They are like climatic changes to the brain, they at times leave us with devastating effects, and it takes perhaps a lifetime to recover from these effects. When the cyclone of anger or jealousy hits human thought, it creates cyclone, which is uncontrolled like Hudhud cyclone, perhaps, it takes awhile to get back to normalcy.
Since we are born, we are so much hypnotized by our own thoughts and the thoughts of others and we do not wish to come out of those thoughts. We almost believe them to be true. It is like, when we go to school or college, we are given a structured syllabus. One needs to study that syllabus only to pass the examination. What, if one tries to go beyond that syllabus, but many do not even try or even thought of going beyond it does not even pop up our minds, but those who try become a great person. It is in other words, thinking out of the box. There is, of course, one flaw in this, that is, thinking out of the box does not mean, being negative, but being positive with constructive thinking. We need to be positive, whatever state you are in, we need to believe, that there is always a possibility and scope for everything. If you believe in something that it can happen, it will happen, though, at times, you might be hypnotized by friends, society, or parents, that you cannot achieve something you believe in. If you believe very strongly in your thoughts and be patient, you will one day discover that you have already reached the point that you have been thinking about it many years ago.
I will give you an example of religion, though i do not wish to hurt sentiments of anyone. For instance, i am born into a religious Hindu family, now, being a Hindu, my mind is so strongly hypnotized so much that i cannot accept any other religion or God, and thinking of any other religion is a sin. I cannot even think of seeing a church or other holy places. It happens because i am so conditioned by the people around me and that is how, i kept believing since birth and never dared to reason. But, did we ever think, there is something beyond this religion. Well, i will leave up to everyone to ponder about it. In the same way, have we ever thought about our careers, there is always a greater possibility, if we consider ourselves capable of doing something great, believing that we can achieve. We should not limit ourselves, though we are limited in body, but not in mind. We can travel the universe if we wish to, travel to distant planets, milky ways, galaxy, wonderful stars, etc., but did we give it a try, that is the question.
I believe, in thinking "BIG". It is essential, i believe, thinking and believing in the greater possibilities rather than just getting stuck and limiting ourselves with the conservative or orthodox type of thinking. In short, we need to believe in something that there is always a possibility.
